Did I hear darty? I’m all about the daytime party. Some day drinking, lawn games and light snacking all while outside and getting a tan? Count me in. Whether you’re hosting a darty or attending a darty, I have the essentials picked out for you so it looks like you have this whole adulting thing down.
This ritual is not just for college students—it followed me well into my post-grad years and I don’t see myself losing interest anytime soon. However, there once was a time that dartying continued through the night. Now, I like the day-drinking because it means I can still be in bed by 10 and get a full night’s rest. Although, once in a blue moon I can rally and make it well past bedtime. Anyway, here are my darty essentials for all you post-grads trying to master adulting.
Kan Jam, CornHole, Ladder Golf, SpikeBall, whatever your lawn game of choice is, make sure it is set up and ready for guests when they arrive (or at the very least make sure one of your buddies brings their set). It will keep them entertained for hours. CornHole is my personal fave and love this set from Viva Sol.
Nothing says undergrad like red solo cups. And while you may want a stack handy for beer pong (you never know) try to class it up a little and have reusable cups for your friends. I love frost-flex cups because you can personalize them and they’re great party favors. Yes, a darty can have a party favor in my book. Get them here.
Save yourself a trip to the liquor store and get all your alcohol needs delivered to your door (in select cities). Minibar Delivery has wine, beer, liquor and mixers. From Bud Light to Moët & Chandon (and everything in between), they have what you need for a darty and will get it to you in under an hour. Use code SAVE10 for $10 off your delivery.
What’s a party without music? Get some waterproof bluetooth speakers and then have the time of your life like the people in this totally-not-staged photo above. But seriously these speakers are amazing. Get them here.
I added fashion to the list for the sole reason that I love this cooler tote from Kate Spade. No doubt in my mind that you will make friends fast if you pack it with alcohol. And while we’re on the subject of fashion, you will also need sunglasses.
When day drinking, never slack off on food. Come prepared. I have the dessert recipes covered such as these cookie dough oreo brownies. As for the rest of the food, check out Southern Living’s outdoor appetizer recipes here.
So the menu is set, but what to serve the food on? Opt for melamine serveware. They’re lightweight, reusable and look a lot better than paper plates. Who says presentation can’t be beautiful outdoors? I’m loving the ocean animal plates (available here) as well as the floral prints (available here).
A tablecloth instantly takes any party up a notch. An inexpensive one will do just fine because chances are there will be spills. I like this striped linen tablecloth from Sur La Table. Get it here.
A citronella candle that actually smells good? Yeah, no matter what age you are or what state you are in, no one likes mosquito bites. Also, no one likes the smell of citronella. Impress your friends with this classy, but essential candle for a bug-free darty. Get it here.
If your darty is so monumental that it does in fact go into the night, better be prepared and have your outdoor lights strung. Get them here.
And there you have it. Darty essentials for the post-grads. You’ll fool everyone looking like you have your life together. Good luck adulting!
