Santa will be here before you know it! This year I’m making sugar cookies stamped with messages to help the big guy get through the night. They’re the perfect gift for the man delivering all the presents!
With so many stops to make, Santa needs all the fuel he can get. His favorite cookies are of course sugar cookies. The thicker and lighter the cookies, the better. They will go down easy with a glass of cold milk!
This recipe for stamp cookies creates the perfect texture thanks to Crisco shortening. The soft cookies are light, but with a thick, flavorful texture. I mean, look at the difference the shortening makes compared to butter!
The cookie dough is perfect for stamping too. Just roll out a ball of dough and flatten it with the stamp. The messages serve as good moral support for Santa when he delivers presents, don’t you think?
If you want to give Santa a gift, place the cookies in a goodie bag and tie it with a bow. It’s also a good way for him to take his treat on his sleigh. After all, he is a busy man and has a lot of houses to visit!
The cookies are also a thoughtful gift to give to neighbors and friends during the holidays. The recipe makes about two dozen cookies so there is plenty to share. Everyone deserves a sweet treat this time of year!
As you get ready for Santa to arrive Christmas Eve, add stamp cookies to your baking list. This recipe makes the best sugar cookies and the man in red will absolutely love them!
- 3 cups Pillsbury BEST All Purpose Flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup Crisco All-Vegetable Shortening one baking stick
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
In the bowl of a stand mixer (or using a hand mixer), beat shortening and sugar on high until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in egg, milk and vanilla until incorporated. Turn mixer on low and gradually add in flour mixture. Mix until combined.
Form dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least one hour.*
Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Scoop chilled dough into balls about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Slightly flatten the balls and stamp with a flour-dusted stamp.
Place cookies on prepared baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden. Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes on baking sheet then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve cookies or gift wrap the cookies in a plastic goodie bag tied with a bow.
Recipe Notes*Alternatively, the dough can be refrigerated for up to three days or frozen for up to a month. Allow dough to defrost in refrigerator before forming into balls.
