CHOCOLATE CUT OUT COOKIES

STEP 1: First, preheat oven to 400° F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

STEP 2: Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

STEP 3: Combine softened butter and powdered sugar using a hand mixer. Beat until light & fluffy,  1 to 2 minutes.

STEP 4: Add the egg & vanilla, and beat until incorporated, about 30 seconds. Scrape down sides as needed.

STEP 5: Slowly, add flour mixture to the bowl. The dough is ready when most of it sticks to the paddle.

This is what it should look like.

STEP 6: Flour the work surface and roll dough to about 1/4-inch thick, using flour for dusting as needed.

Use cookie cutters to cut out cookies.

STEP 7: Transfer the heart-shaped cookies to the prepared baking sheets.

STEP 8: Bake the cookies for 7-8 minutes, rotating halfway. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for two minutes.

Dip in melted chocolate and add sprinkles, if desired.
