25 Days of Baking: Day 4
National Cookie Day would be in December, would’t it? It should be national cookie month because it seems like I’ll be cranking out cookies every day between now and the end of December. There are chocolate chip, gingerbread, sugar, shortbread, macarons… the list is endless. But everyone knows milk’s favorite cookie–Oreos of course!
Anybody who has eaten Oreos knows you can not just have one. They are addictive, as are these Oreo truffles. They have a smooth, cream filled center with a crunchy, chocolate coating AND you can make them with any type of Oreo! That’s right, Mint Oreos, Golden Oreos, Chocolate Oreos, and Gingerbread Oreos. So run to the store and a grab a package of Oreos (or 2… or 3) and make these truffles!

- 1 package of your favorite Oreo
- 8 oz. cream cheese* room temperature
- 16 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
- 8 oz. white chocolate** optional
- Sprinkles for decorating optional
Put all the Oreos your food processor and pulse until they are finely ground. Add the cream cheese and pulse until smooth.
Place the mixture into the fridge for about 30-60 minutes.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment or waxed paper. Take the truffle out of the fridge. Scoop and roll equal sized balls.
Place the truffles in the freezer to chill for at least an hour or up to a day.
When you are ready to cover the truffles, carefully melt the chocolate chips and a tablespoon of shortening in a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring well every 30 seconds, until smooth. (Tips for melting chocolate here)
Remove truffles from freezer. Stick a toothpick in a truffle, dip it in the melted chocolate, and coat evenly. Gently tap off the excess chocolate and place on the tray and immediately sprinkle.
Repeat until all the truffles are dipped and sprinkled. Place in fridge for 15 minutes to harden.
Store the truffles in an airtight container in the fridge.
I found that the flavored Oreos have more filling and therefore need less cream cheese. I would only use 7 oz. (I don't recommend using Double Stuff Oreos).
*If you want to drizzle with white chocolate, wait until the first coating of chocolate hardens and then drizzle with melted white chocolate.
